Inching out on a limb,
my best friend plucks,
tosses pomegranates
from a branch.

My black skirt becomes
a cloth basket, I run,
catch each fruit in it.

Basket full.
I sit under a tree,
wait for her company.

We will break flesh
with hands
suck on ruby
red seeds.
